How to Style a Shirt Dress for 2 Seasons – Featuring Bauh Designs

How to Style a Shirt Dress for Two Seasons

A shirt dress is a great staple for any wardrobe and any style. But the question is, what’s the best way to wear it?

Today I’m showing you two looks with the same shirt dress, and how I style each look for a different season. As summer is quickly coming to an end, and the stores are filling up with the latest looks for fall, anything you are purchasing right now should be a good layering piece for the coming months.

I recently got this beautiful floral shirt dress from Bauh Designs, where the founder & designer, Oleksandra Baukh handmakes everything on her site. She is based out of Seattle, Washington and believes women should be able to be comfortable, while still looking chic. I was so excited to work with her because as a mom and a fashion blogger- I’m all about comfort while still looking cute & chic, and with the seasons changing soon, it inspired me to show you the best ways to wear it for this season, and the upcoming fall.

Styling a Shirt Dress for Spring/Summer

How is summer already halfway done? The days are already getting shorter but the sun and heat are still full force here in Virginia, so as I mentioned earlier, the clothes I’m purchasing now need to be clothes that I can wear now and in the fall. When I saw this dress on Bauh Designs, I knew it would be a classic piece that I could keep forever and style so many different ways. At the same time, it’s bold and fun which is a must for me!

First of all – about this shirt dress. It’s from Bauh Designs and the quality is excellent. The material isn’t thick and bulky like you might expect it to be, it’s actually really well made and very lightweight. My favorite part about it other than the beautiful fabric, is the fact that Oleksandra (the designer) was able to make it custom to my size. I’m so not the typical size and clothes often swallow me when going for a non-fitted look, but the length is perfect and the pleats near the waistline are simply perfect. I love that it was made in the US and made by hand… You will not be disappointed with her products!

Styling this dress for spring or summer, I would leave it unbelted. The heat is intense here and fitted clothing in the middle of the summer isn’t always the comfiest. I paired it with some simple jewelry that can still hold it’s own against this bold printed dress, but without clashing with it. The necklace and cuff bracelet are from the new fall collection from Kendra Scott. Shout out to the amazing Richmond, VA team for sending me these beautiful and classic pieces! To finish off this super easy look were some sunglasses that matched my jewelry (these are $12 from Dottie Couture & if you use ‘ATB15’ you can get 15% off!) and the cutest and most comfortable wedges ever and matching bag both in a neutral nude color. Seriously guys – its that easy and looks so effortless!

Styling a Shirt Dress for Fall

Ugg Heeled Boots // Cardigan (purchased in Tan, Olive & Black)

As soon as the temps start to drop, I go for a neutral, comfortable and warm cardigan, like this one from the Nsale. I ended up snagging it in three colors, because it’s a great layering piece an the neutral colors will go with so many things, like this shirt dress! Since I’m wearing a cardigan, I wanted the dress to be a little more fitted to avoid any extra bulkiness, so i added a thin, solid belt to cinch in at the waist.

You could opt for boots like these Ugg Suede boots (and yes they have the fur lining inside!) or even a cute pair of booties and the same neutral handbag. These are two totally different looks, but both are functional, comfortable and super chic. Which one of these looks is your favorite? How would you style this fun shirt dress?
